This small sanctuary lies a couple of hours’ drive from Pune, around 10 km off the Pune–Solapur highway. Although the forest check-post remains closed, visitors can still drive through the area. A few watchtowers offer wide, panoramic views of the landscape, which is dominated by scrub vegetation. Chinkaras and wild ponies can often be seen grazing, while numerous bird species gather around the seasonal ponds, making it a pleasant spot for nature lovers.
Leave early to avoid heat and catch peak wildlife activity.
Carry water, snacks, hats, and a pair of binoculars.
Located ~70–75 km from Pune, near Supe.
Entry formalities are simple; the sanctuary can be explored by private vehicle.
Focus on:
Chinkaras (Indian Gazelle)
Indian wolves (rare, mostly early morning)
Hyenas (uncommon but possible)
Wild ponies
Peacocks, lapwings, bee-eaters, shrikes, and more around the scrubland.
Climb the watchtowers for panoramic views of the open grassland.
Great spot for birdwatching and photography.
Seasonal ponds attract many birds.
Drive through the unpaved routes to quieter zones.
Look for chinkara herds grazing and bird activity around water bodies.
No food stalls inside; eat at a shaded spot or near the entrance.
Walk around designated areas (avoid venturing into deep scrub).
Capture landscape shots, especially if monsoon has turned the scrub green.
Start back for Pune before the heat becomes intense.

Best time: Early morning or late afternoon.
Carry plenty of water; the sanctuary can get very hot.
Wear muted colours to avoid disturbing wildlife.
A telephoto lens (200–600 mm) is ideal for photography.
Mobile network may be weak in some parts.
